How Can an All-Good God Punish People Eternally in Hell?

This is perhaps the most common and the most challenging objection to Christianity. It is also, though, a special case of the Problem of Evil, and so while it has a similar resolution, that resolution is not entirely satisfying. For our present knowledge, compared to the knowledge and purposes of God is so paltry and incomplete as to render our understanding and assessment of the compatibility of God’s love and an eternal hell inescapably inadequate. There are some considerations to which we do have access that can shed some light on how God’s love is not incompatible with a final, everlasting torment and punishment. Check back soon for a discussion of these considerations.
